It's a stark reality according to the New York Federal Reserve's survey which says most renters expect prices to increase 9.7% over the next year and only 13.4% think they have a chance to become homeowners; well off the high of over 20% in 2014. Survey respondents also expected housing prices to increase 5.1% over the next year.
