Sept. 18, 2024: Fed Meeting Recap: Chair Jerome Powell defends central bank's decision to go big with first rate cut.

Although a 50 basis point rate cut was not widely expected by most market participants and economists, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and the committee delivered a 50 basis point rate cut to the markets citing risks to the labor market outpaced the risks to inflation.
